Industry health and safety leaders appointed
to bolster SafetyOn’s expanding programme
SafetyOn, the health and safety organisation for the UK onshore wind industry, has appointed a new Chair and Vice Chair of its Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), kick starting what is set to be an important year for the organisation.
Supported by the Energy Institute, SafetyOn provides leadership in health and safety for the onshore wind industry by creating an open network of health and safety experts, professionals and stakeholders. The TAC meets six times per year to share knowledge and lessons learned, aiming to better understand the risks in the onshore wind industry, their root causes and possible mitigation actions to prevent accidents and incidents.
Joining as Chair of the TAC is Jason Day, Head of HSE at EDF Renewables. Jason is a Chartered H&S Professional (CMIOSH) and working towards becoming a Chartered Fellow (CFIOSH) and has been an active promoter of SafetyOn throughout his own organisation.
Gareth Piggot, Health and Safety Director at ScottishPower Renewables, joins as Vice-Chair. Gareth is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and Fellow of the Institute for Chemical Engineers, with 20 years of experience in the energy industry. He has been a Health and Safety Director within ScottishPower for 5 years and a staunch supporter of SafetyOn’s work.
2025 is set to be an exciting year for SafetyOn, which is expanding operations into the Irish onshore wind sector. This year, SafetyOn will begin collecting data from Irish wind farms, holding a launch event later in the year in Dublin, to bolster it’s incident data reporting activities.
Chair of SafetyOn, and Head of HSE at Vantage RE, Heather Chambers commented:
“I am delighted to welcome Jason and Gareth as the new Chair and Vice-Chair of SafetyOn’s TAC.
“With an exciting programme of activities planned for 2025 – including Stand Up for Safety Week taking place next week, expansion into the Irish onshore wind industry and our annual Stakeholder Forum – I’m pleased to have the support and expertise of Jason and Gareth in delivering SafetyOn’s packed programme of activities.”
SafetyOn comprises 20 Full members – BayWe r.e., Deutsche Windtechnik, EDF Renewables, Enercon, Fred. Olsen Renewables, GE Renewable Energy, Nadara, Natural Power, Nordex Group, OnPath Energy, RES, RWE, ScottishPower Renewables, Siemens Gamesa, SSE Renewables, Statkraft, Vantage RE, Vattenfall, and Vestas.
